Bangkok!

Kuala Lumpur LCC terminal
January 18.... Arrived in Kuala Lumpur airport.  Few hours transit before we head to Bangkok. The LCC terminal in Bangkok was okay, small but it has everything this girl needs, those are coffee, wifi and smoking room.  When we arrive in Bangkok, I think by the time we get there and checked into a hostel it will be evening, so we might check out surrounding area and make plans for side trips from Bangkok.  I kinda miss Japan already by this time in Kuala Lumpur, although for sure I don't miss the biting chill of Japanese winter. This girl will not be doing winter travelling in Japan anymore :D , maybe spring or fall so I don't freeze my bum.... I felt very tired when we got there, even though I did had a decent sleep on the plane still felt like I could use more.  Kinda miss my own bed.... but not Saskatoon :D.
The flight from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok didn't take a long time, around 2 hours.  When we got to the airport, immigration was smooth thanks to Canadian passport.  I run into another person, a Japanese, I called him JT and we head to Khaosan Road together.  We figured out that we could take the train to Bangkok, then continue on by bus to Khaosan Road.  Usual option from Don Mueang airport to Khaosan Road is by taxi.  Once you're through with immigration and luggage pick up, head to Don Mueang train station which sign you will pass on your way out.  Follow the sign that will lead to to head down the ramp to the station, then buy ticket to Bangkok Hualamphong station, cost around 5 Baht.  Supposed to take around half hour by train to get to Bangkok, but somehow, as I learn in Indonesia it's never a guarantee.  We were lucky the train was not full at all, and it was quite the pleasant trip.  Once you arrived at BHT station, head left from exit and wait for bus number 53 to go to Khaosan Road.  City buses has no certain schedule, so you just have to wait.  Ignore everyone else that tries to get you into taxi or tuktuk :D.  The bus cost 6.50 Baht and takes about half hour or so, longer if traffic is brutal.  We had quite the pleasant trip on the bus too, and as long as you let the money collector person where you want to stop, usually they are quite helpful in letting you know when you get there.  As soon as we arrived we tried to find a hostel, and found one very cheap, 250 for a private room. Room was filthy, the shower was awkward, but the price reflected that.... The place kinda reminded me of a brothel hence the condom wrappers I found in the room.  Most guest houses in Khaosan Road has free wifi... though doesn't mean it's fast or stable connection :D.  Owner was a very sweet Thai lady name Joyce, and quite helpful.  Surprisingly for low tourist season, decent hostels were full.  Only ones that are brothel-like has empty rooms :D.  I washed my face quickly and we head out to find food (well, basically as soon as we step out of the hostel we found food :D)  We accompanied JT to the vegetarian restaurant where he would like to do cooking class, called Mai Kaidee.  Quite well known apparently. We also had dinner there, expensive but the food was great.  Afterwards, we walk around the area just to check things out.  My impression of the place? Khaosan Road reminded me a lot of Kuta.  Very touristy area, a lot of loud bars, restaurants and nightclubs, guest houses along the ways, and MANY foreigners.... however Kuta totally lost points when it comes to food vendors :D. The difference is, no one really haggle or push to sell you things or services.  Many of the Thai locals there left you alone (except for the crazy tuktuk drivers, even then they're not that pushy :D) Quite comfortable to be around there because of that, and definitely you will not go hungry there.  Outrageously many food vendors there, and the food was delicious and cheap.  We ended the night with a couple of pints of Thai beer, Leo tasted like water, Singha was better, though still quite smooth. We will head to Ayuttaya tomorrow by train....
