Few days story in one post..... cuz not much going on.... needed a break :D

August 17, 2013.... First of all... HAPPY 17August Indonesia! Today is Indonesia's independence day, not the officially recognized by the world (hmmm... meaning America :D.... ) On August 17, 1945 the first president of Indonesia, Sukarno and his deputy president Hatta, proclaimed Indonesian's independence while the country was in power vacuum.  The Japanese had withdrawn from Indonesia due to their loss in WW II, and the Dutch had not arrived in Indonesia yet to reclaimed power.  This date was not recognized internationally, but then our independence was internationally recognized the year after.  Despite all the distorted history and as we know, history is written by the winner so who knows what the truth is, Happy birthday Indonesia !
Okay, back to my blog..... Or should I just shut up this time and show pics? That's a better idea I think :D .... oookay, maybe I blabber a bit about my daytrip to Osaka, with intention to visit Tsuruhashi where the largest Korean town is.  From Nagoya, take JR line bound for Ogaki, then transfer to JR line bound to Maibara, then transfer to JR line bound for Osaka.  From Osaka station, look for JR Osaka Loop Line, which similar to Yamanote line in Tokyo (the line went in a circle around the city).  Stop at Tsuruhashi station, as soon as you come out of the central exit, take your right and it shouldn't be hard to spot the narrow little alley of kimchi and pickle sellers. Unfortunately, the day we went there most of the stores were closed and it was (again) scorching hot that day.... too hot to be curious of around the market.
The first few pictures were taken at our wedding celebration lunch at some fancy Japanese restaurant.  The restaurant serve mainly tofu menu, in different forms.  Very vegetarian friendly, except for the use of fish products for some of the dishes.  Of course, my thoughtful husband had arranged so I got none with the fish products (^^).  Above all, it was a pleasure to meet the rest of his family too!
After pictures of Osaka, I just put some random pictures of .... ummmm some stuff (^^) enjoy!
Garnish for the fresh tofu.  We went to traditional style Japanese restaurant,
however this restaurant serves tofu that they freshly made themselves...
no wonder it tasted heavenly! (and very pricey too... :D)

On the left, bottom part was eggplant and top part was beancurd.... yummmie ^^

Most left and right: grilled aburage, middle : grilled konnyaku, and on the
woven bowl was fresh tofu... just take a scoop and eat it!

Tofu sushi, basically instead of wrapped in nori (seaweed) it was wrapped in
fresh bean curd.... yumm yumm (pink stuff was ginger thank you... not salmon)

Tofu, mushrooms and cheese, grilled inside a leaf.... also yumminess (^^)

We were all glad the desert wasn't tofu.... by this point
everyone was sick of tofu :D

Yakiniku.... barbecue meat.... thankfully this restaurant will
give veggie plate too and oh boy... fresh shiitake are delicious!

Green tea shaved ice.... nom nom

Strawberry shaved ice... nom nom

A guy in Oosu

Little dark market as soon as you exit the Tsuruhashi station

Okay, mabe this part was a little bright.....

Pickle galore.... nom nom... fresh and CHEAP!
oh nom nom nom....

Dark alleys around the market
Another one..... feels like being in some sketchy China town :D
Yepp... still more kimchi, pickles, chili powder, chili paste.... I was in heaven..

The famous Korea town in Osaka.... about 10 minutes walk from
Tsuruhashi station

Vegie bibimbap.... nom nom..... better with more chili paste ^^

My newfound favorite ... Korean kind of fried dough (^^) called hottok, there are sugar, vegie, brown sugar.... err...
anyone got recipe for this? (^^)

Most stores were closed today due to obon.....

Osaka crowd....
Viv refused to wake up so I made ponytails .... looks kinda pretty on him (^^)
We went to Izakaya too, which is a Japanese style bar... Most food are grilled, from meat to veggies... my fave is always hiyayakko, which is cold tofu served with soy sauce

Basically Japanese pub.... much yummier food than other kinds of pubs for sure!
